How to quit your job doesn’t have to be something that should bring you even more stress. Let’s face it; many people hate the sound of the alarm every working day. As a result, it provides them with dread and even makes them sick. For example, maybe they have a boss that is beyond difficult. Or, they feel stuck in a dead-end job. Perhaps they’re not challenged or inspired by the work they do. So, if this is you, today is the day you can decide to make the change.
Above all, work stress, which can be driven by many factors, can lead to illness. Recently I even wrote a post about open floor plan office space and anxiety. Lots of things can be making you stressed at work. So, if you’re feeling exhausted, unsatisfied with life and work, negative and you’ve got health problems, your life is blinking yellow. It’s time for a change. But, how do you quit working that job you can’t stand?
Remember that YOU Matter
If you’re facing yourself every work morning and a part of you feels that you have to figure out how to quit your job, the first place to begin is with your mind. In other words, you have to become your biggest cheerleader. If you’re on a path that is taking you nowhere, you have to remind yourself that YOU Matter! I’ve been in your shoes. I know what it’s like to have a tough time of things. But, someone once told me, “YOU Matter, Wayne.” And, that’s what I’m telling you today.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life
Second, after you believe that YOU Matter, so does your time. You have to continue to get your head in the game. Decide that it is today, and not tomorrow, that you’re going to begin to take the steps for a new work life. Today is the day that you’ve decided to figure out how to quit your job and move onto something that will be of interest to you. It might take time, but as the adage goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.
Bills prevent you from the chance to quit working
You always those pesky bills. But, moving on from something that no longer serves you means keeping things in perspective. So, when you’re thinking about how to quit your job, remember you’re not alone. There are millions on the same boat. And, the difference between those who will remain with the sinking ship and those who will save themselves begins with the mind. But, it ends with a plan and its successful execution.
What do you want in the next 5 years after you quit working at the job?
There’s one question managers have always asked job applicants or people they wanted to move up in their careers. And, it’s “What do you want to do in the next five years?” Why is that question important? Because it requires thought. So, ask yourself, do you want to work for yourself? Do you want to change careers? Or, do you want to move to another company in the same profession? Do you know what the prospects are for the future in light artificial intelligence and your particular job? Answer those questions as you begin the process to quit working for the business where you work.
Think of your job search as your new job
After you’ve taken the time to be reflective of your life, do your research. If you are looking to start a new business, investigate how to create a successful business. Learn about the industry. But, if you’re seeking a career change or just another job, take the time to do that research. Create a plan of attack. Above all, set monthly and weekly goals. In other words, after you’ve done your research decide how many people you will network with and how many applications you will submit, for example.
When you quit working for a company, prioritize your well-being.
Looking for a new job opportunity, or starting a business, is not easy. Meaning, it takes time. So, what you’re going to have to do is make an effort to prioritize your well-being. For instance, if weeks or months pass without the perfect opportunity, you’re going to have to take care of yourself, so you don’t quit. As a result, you’ll have to treat yourself to things and experiences that have meaning to you as you journey this road. Give yourself small rewards for achieving milestones. And, consistently remember that you come first in this experience. No one else is going to be able to do it for you.
Your work or your boss do not define your life
Finally, as you get through the days of going to a job that you no longer like, keep things in perspective. Yes, this is similar to my earlier point about getting your head in the game. But, the reason I’m closing this post on this message is that your mental attitude and perspective matter. In other words, they will make all the difference in the world. So, you have to do whatever it takes when you’re looking to quit working for your current company to keep focused. Meaning, that this too shall pass. When you’re looking to figure out how to quit your job, you have to remember something else. Neither your work nor your boss defines who you are in life. You’re more significant than that. Again, YOU Matter. So, get out there and get the next job that will get you where you want to be in life.
